A Good Summary

  1. is clear to someone who has not read the original material.

  1. maintains good paragraph structure, with a topic sentence identifying the title/author of the original.

  1. gives only the main ideas of the original.  Omit unnecessary details, dates, figures, etc. unless essential

  1. paraphrases, with no direct quotes from the original.

  1. is concise, not wordy.

  1. follows the same order as the original when possible.

  1. is objective.
