Think of a current trend or fad.  It can be a popular style of clothing, a kind of a movie, TV show, a kind of music, a sport, a pastime, an invention, or an appliance.  

Write a short essay (250-300 words) on the causes of this fad or trend.  In other words, why is this thing popular?



What changes in society have encouraged this trend?
What changes in the economy?
Does it appeal to a specific age group?  Why?
Does it meet hidden emotional needs, like gaining status, feeling safe, powerful, etc.
