PM 125 Writing and Reading

Think of a current trend or fad.  It can be a popular style of clothing, a kind of a movie, TV show, a kind of music, a sport, a pastime, an invention, or an appliance.

Write a short essay (250-300 words) on the causes of this fad or trend.  In other words, why is this thing popular?

Questions to consider:

What changes in society have encouraged this trend?
What changes in the economy?
Does it appeal to a specific age group?  Why?
Does it meet hidden emotional needs, like gaining status, feeling safe, powerful, etc.
